I had to get from Suva right across to the other end of Fiji island and it cost an absolute pittance. You have to share with others, but that's fun, and the driver will stop when you ask for pee stops or a drink!

Going by bus
Buses run regularly around Viti Levu. It's cheap and quite fun way to travel around. Often the turn on loud music or screen a film during the ride. The buses stop everywhere as long as you tell them or wave along the road. Nadi-Suva costs around 11 FJD and takes 4 hours.

Driving
Some people say to rent a car and to drive around Fiji yourself. Others say its suicide. I dont know either way, but I can tell you it is a peculiar driving system. The public buses are good and reliable, and if you are unsure about driving yourself, they are a cheap and safe alternative.

I flew into Nadi and used hotel transportation to where I was staying.This was a learning trip for me. I found that the local buses are fun. Besides being inexpensive they allow you a different perspective of the country you are visiting.
